The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said that many people do not support Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to run again in 2027.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said that many people do not support Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to run again in 2027.
Wike spoke on Wednesday during his monthly media chat in Abuja. He said it is not true that people are widely asking Fubara to seek re-election.
He explained that the political crisis in Rivers State was earlier settled with the help of President Bola Tinubu. At the time, lawmakers had started impeachment proceedings against Fubara.
According to Wike, the President asked everyone to maintain peace. As a result, the State House of Assembly withdrew the impeachment after both sides agreed to settle the issue.
However, Wike claimed that Fubara did not fully follow the agreement reached during the peace talks.
He also dismissed claims that people are urging the governor to run again in 2027, saying such statements are not true.
Wike added that when parties agree to settle a dispute before the President, they are expected to respect and follow the agreement.
He said no politician would admit they were pressured by the public to run for office, adding that even if people ask, a person can still refuse if they are not ready.
