Management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has debunked the rumour going the round that the school’s authorities have released a letter ordering resumption of academic activities.
A release on Friday by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated categorically and unequivocally that the said letter did not emanate from the Office of the Registrar or any authorised organ of the University.
He said the signature appended thereto was fake, forged and criminally fabricated.
“The attention of the Management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has been drawn to the circulation of a fake letter purportedly issued and signed by the Registrar of the University in respect of the ongoing three-week mid-semester break approved by the University Senate.
“The signature appended thereto is fake, forged and criminally fabricated,” Olarewaju said.
According to the University’s spokesman, “the malicious document is clearly the handiwork of mischief makers and agents of confusion whose intention is to mislead members of the University community, create unnecessary tension to tarnish the image and integrity of the institution.
“The content is not only false and highly malicious, but also satanic in intent, reckless in conception and condemnable in its entirety.
“Members of the public, particularly our students, parents, guardians, alumni, staff and other stakeholders, are hereby strongly advised to disregard the said letter completely, as it carries no authority, legitimacy or approval whatsoever from the University.”
He assured all that the University Management remained committed to transparency, peace, orderliness and the welfare of all members of the University community.
“Official information from the University will always be disseminated through recognised and verified communication channels.
“The University therefore urges all stakeholders to remain calm, law-abiding and vigilant against the spread of falsehood and misinformation,” Olarewaju added.
