2027: Goodluck Jonathan still PDP member, Turaki-led faction declares

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is still a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), according to the faction of the party led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.

The group said Jonathan recently took part in the PDP’s digital membership registration exercise and personally registered in his ward.

In a statement released on Saturday by the faction’s spokesman, Ini Ememobong, the party dismissed campaign posters circulating on social media that link Jonathan to other political parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

The faction described the posters as fake and warned Nigerians not to believe claims that Jonathan belongs to any political party outside the PDP.

According to the statement, some posters show Jonathan contesting for president alone, while others pair him with different politicians as a running mate.

The group stressed that Jonathan remains a registered PDP member under the Turaki-led leadership. It also revealed that Jonathan confirmed his membership during a recent meeting with the party’s interim national working committee.

The faction explained that the clarification was necessary because Nigerian law does not allow a person to register with more than one political party.

It also alleged that some people may try to secretly register Jonathan and other politicians in multiple parties without their approval.

The group called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the public to ignore any false registration or campaign materials linked to Jonathan outside the PDP.
