The re-election ambition of the lawmaker representing Ikorodu Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Abiodun Ogunleye, has received a major boost following endorsements from influential political groups, transport unions and market associations within the constituency.

Among the groups that publicly declared support for Ogunleye are the Onward Movement led by former Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Sinai Agunbiade, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), as well as market men and women across Ikorodu.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ gathering attended by party supporters and community leaders, Agunbiade urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to support Ogunleye’s return to the Assembly, stressing the importance of legislative experience and continuity.

The former four-term lawmaker described Ogunleye as a committed representative whose experience would continue to benefit the people of Ikorodu if given another term in office.

Agunbiade, who spoke on behalf of the Onward Movement, formally endorsed Ogunleye and assured him of massive grassroots support ahead of the party primaries and the general election.

Leaders of the NURTW in Ikorodu also declared support for the lawmaker’s second-term bid.

The union leaders, including Alhaji Waliu Daisi, Alhaji Akeem Tijani and Alhaji Jamiu Inabere, pledged the backing of commercial drivers, tricycle operators and motorcycle riders across the constituency.

Daisi said the transport union remained loyal to the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that members of the union would mobilise massively for Ogunleye during the party primaries and future elections.

According to him, the union considered itself a critical stakeholder within the APC structure and would continue to support candidates aligned with the party’s leadership.

Former state officer of the union, Tijani, also assured Ogunleye of the readiness of union members to participate actively in the electoral process, noting that members had already secured their voter cards ahead of the polls.

He, however, appealed to the lawmaker and the APC leadership to address challenges facing transport operators in Ikorodu, particularly the issue of inadequate motor park facilities.

Similarly, Inabere said union members across Ikorodu had already been mobilised through various empowerment initiatives aimed at strengthening grassroots participation.

At another meeting, the Iyaloja-General of Ikorodu, Chief Elizabeth Isikalu, endorsed Ogunleye on behalf of market traders, describing him as dependable and accessible.

She said market men and women in the constituency were prepared to support his re-election based on his relationship with traders and contributions to community development.

Responding to the endorsements, Ogunleye expressed appreciation to political leaders, transport unions and market associations for their confidence and support.

The lawmaker, who was accompanied by notable APC leaders including the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Nurudeen Agbaje, assured residents that more dividends of democracy would reach the constituency through continued APC leadership at both state and federal levels.

He also pledged to sustain programmes aimed at improving infrastructure, grassroots empowerment and community development across Ikorodu.
