Nigerian music executive and producer, Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has reacted to the allegations made against his record label, Mavin Records.
Jazzy, while speaking on the Crea8torium podcast explained that the allegations of favouritism in his label were untrue. He added that it made no sense that a record label would invest in an artist and ignore the artist in a bid to promote another.
“We do see lots of comments that we do not prioritise some artists. But that isn’t true. It’s like I would just carry my money and just throw it away, just lock it inside somewhere. We obviously, invest in people to make us and themselves money. So, the idea that we would have artists and not want to prioritise them is not real. If you see an artist in Mavin and the artist only releases one or two songs in a year, just know that it is the artist’s decision,” he stated.
Jazzy also revealed that hesitation to release songs are in some cases caused by the artist and their struggle with imposter syndrome. He stressed that he however, does not prioritise one artist over others.
”If the artist has 1 million songs and they want to release them, we can release them. Most of them actually have imposter syndrome. It’s normal. We are all human beings, so sometimes they can panic and overthink things. But there is no such thing as prioritising one artist over another,” he said.
