Yet-to-be identified gunmen stormed Yankamaye community in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano state on Monday night, killing three people and leaving many wounded, during open heavy gunfire that took residents by surprise.

The night attack sent panic to villagers who have, in recent times, experienced a series of bandits’ invasion that have taken lives, wounded many and left their property, including livestock, at the mercy of the attackers.

While three residents lost their lives during the attack, many villagers fled their homes, taking refuge in neighbouring towns.

Our Correspondent gathered that the heavily armed gunmen stormed the community and began shooting sporadically, in Commando style, as gunshots were targeted at hapless residents and their houses.

The member representing Ghari and Tsanyawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Sani Bala, confirmed the incident in a statement shared online, revealing that three dead bodies have been recovered following the attack.

“As at the time of this update, three people have been confirmed dead,” the lawmaker stated, while expressing concern over the worsening security situation within the constituency.

Saifullahi Soro Daya, who witnessed the attack, said many villagers abandoned their homes, “as the attackers continued firing indiscriminately across the community.

“The attackers entered the town shooting without stopping, and people had no option, than to run for their lives,” he added.

Madahuru Ibrahim, another eyewitness, disclosed that, “several persons sustained varying degrees of injuries during the attack and were rushed to hospital for medical treatment.”

Residents of Yankamaye and neighbouring communities have continued to appeal to security agencies to intensify surveillance and deploy additional personnel to prevent further attacks, within the area.

Tsanyawa is one of the Local Government Areas bordering Kano and Katsina state, where bandits believe to penetrate Kano communities through bush paths.
