The Lagos State Government has earmarked over N1.4 trillion for major infrastructure projects in 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen economic growth, improve connectivity and accelerate urban development across the state.
The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Ope George, disclosed this on Tuesday during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.
George said the N4.444 trillion 2026 budget signed into law by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, tagged “Budget of Shared Prosperity,” was strategically designed to drive infrastructure sustainability, economic diversification, institutional reforms and inclusive social development.
According to him, the budget comprises N2.338 trillion capital expenditure and N2.106 trillion recurrent expenditure, representing a 53:47 capital-to-recurrent ratio aimed at accelerating economic activities and improving residents’ quality of life.
The commissioner explained that about N1.467 trillion has been allocated to critical infrastructure projects spanning transportation, healthcare, education and public works.
He identified major projects including the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge and the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway Phase IIB as key infrastructure initiatives expected to reduce traffic congestion, improve connectivity and stimulate investment across strategic economic corridors.
George said the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge would provide an alternative transport route linking communities such as Mende and Maryland to Ikeja’s commercial districts, thereby easing pressure on heavily congested roads including Kudirat Abiola Way and Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way.
He added that the project is expected to boost commercial activities, improve logistics efficiency, encourage urban renewal and increase property values within the axis.
On housing delivery, the commissioner disclosed that the state government is prioritising the completion of several housing projects targeted at low- and middle-income earners.
The projects include the 504-unit LAGOSHOMS Sangotedo Phase II, Epe Housing Scheme, Ibeshe Phase II, Late Abdul-Wahab Oke Benson Estate, LAGOSHOMS Ajara-Badagry and the Egan Mixed Housing Scheme.
According to George, the housing schemes are aimed at reducing the housing deficit and expanding access to affordable accommodation across Lagos.
He further revealed that N87 billion has been allocated to food security initiatives, including the Lagos Wholesale Produce Hub, while N35 billion was earmarked for tourism-related infrastructure projects such as the Badagry Point of No Return and the Lagos Heritage Centre.
The commissioner also disclosed that N112 billion would be invested in energy and power projects to improve productivity, reduce operational downtime and strengthen the competitiveness of the state economy.
On institutional reforms, George stated that N33 billion has been allocated to technology and digital transformation initiatives aimed at automating government operations, boosting revenue generation and improving ease of doing business through faster and more efficient service delivery.
