A man has been sentenced to two years in prison after stealing hard drives containing unreleased music by Beyoncé from a car in Atlanta, Georgia.

Kelvin Evans, 41, pleaded guilty to charges of entering an automobile and criminal trespass following the theft in July 2025. In addition to his prison sentence, he was also sentenced to three years of probation.

Evans broke into a Jeep Wagoneer rented by choreographer Christopher Grant and dancer Diandre Blue, who were working with Beyoncé during her “Cowboy Carter” tour. The incident occurred on 8 July 2025, as the tour made its way to Atlanta. Upon returning to the vehicle, Grant and Blue discovered that the rear window had been smashed and their luggage, including hard drives, had been stolen.

Despite extensive investigation, the stolen items, including the hard drives containing the unreleased music, have yet to be recovered.

Evans struck a plea deal in court on Tuesday, just before his trial was set to begin, the Fulton County District Attorney’s office confirmed to the BBC. Surveillance footage showed a red Hyundai, driven by Evans, pulling up next to the rental car in a parking garage. Further footage captured Evans handling suitcases that were believed to belong to Grant and Blue.

Grant and Blue reported that the stolen items included two MacBook laptops, Apple headphones, luxury clothing, and accessories. The hard drives were confirmed to contain unreleased Beyoncé material. Additionally, Grant revealed he had personal sensitive information belonging to Beyoncé in the stolen items.

Prosecutors confirmed that the stolen laptops contained tracking technology, which placed the items at an address linked to Evans.

As part of his sentence, Evans has been ordered to stay away from both the victims and the parking garage where the theft occurred. He has been in jail since his arrest in August 2025.

The theft occurred just before Beyoncé’s four-night performance
