Ex-Super Eagles midfield Maestro Henry Nwosu to be laid to rest June 6

The family of late Nigerian football legend, Henry Nwosu, has announced plans for his burial.
Nwosu, who was part of Nigeria’s winning 1980 Africa Cup of Nations team, will be buried on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
The burial activities will begin on Monday, June 1, with a Night of Tributes at Saint Finbarr’s College, Akoka, Lagos, from 4pm to 7pm.
A Service of Songs will hold on Thursday, June 4, at his hometown, Umukwoma Umuorie-Naze in Owerri, Imo State, starting at 4pm.
On Friday, June 5, a novelty football match will be played at Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri by Lagos Legends and Imo Legends to honour him.
The funeral ceremony on Saturday, June 6, will start with a lying-in-state at Dan Anyiam Stadium before a funeral mass at his family home in Umukwoma, Naze, from 10am to 11am. He will be buried immediately after the mass.
A thanksgiving service will take place on Sunday, June 7, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, Naze, by 10am.

He is remembered for helping young footballers grow and for his contributions to football development in Nigeria.
