Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has been declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ogun East Senatorial District primary election held on Monday.

The Chief Returning Officer for Ogun East, Dr. Wale Bello, announced that Abiodun scored 75,550 votes out of 99,503 total votes cast.

Former governor Gbenga Daniel got 398 votes, while Bukola Braimoh received 29 votes.

According to the results released:

In Sagamu Local Government Area, Abiodun scored 8,434 votes, while Braimoh got 7 votes.

In Ijebu North East, Abiodun received 5,655 votes, Daniel got 12 votes, and Braimoh scored 17 votes.

In Ikenne, Abiodun secured 8,226 votes, while the other candidates recorded no votes.

In Remo North, Abiodun polled 7,034 votes.

In Ijebu-Ode, he received 10,942 votes.

In Ogun Waterside, he scored 6,958 votes.

In Odogbolu, Abiodun got 7,989 votes, while Daniel received 219 votes.

In Ijebu East, Abiodun polled 7,058 votes, while Daniel scored 139 votes.

In Ijebu North, Abiodun secured 13,469 votes, while Daniel got 22 votes.

After announcing the results, Dr. Bello praised party members in Ogun East for conducting themselves peacefully during the exercise.

In his acceptance speech, Abiodun thanked party members for supporting him and described the victory as a sign of confidence in his administration.

He said he first contested for the Ogun East Senate seat 29 years ago and won at the time, but was never sworn in. He added that despite setbacks over the years, he later became governor in 2019.

“I thank you for the confidence reposed in me. I promise not to disappoint you and will provide quality representation,” he said.

The governor also appreciated security agencies, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), party members, cabinet members, and his aides for their support during the primary election.
