Former Kano State governor and National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has denied claims that he is secretly working for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso made the statement during an interview with Global TV, saying that people spreading the rumour do not understand politics.
He said:
“Only fools will believe that we are working for Tinubu. My supporters and I are working for the NDC and for what we believe will benefit Nigerians.”
The former presidential candidate said that although he has known Tinubu for many years, it does not mean they share the same political views.
According to him, they belong to different political groups despite their long relationship.
Kwankwaso also accused some of the president’s close associates of not giving him the true picture of the country.
He claimed that instead of focusing on Nigeria’s economic and security problems, some aides are more interested in convincing governors and politicians to join the APC.
Speaking on his alliance with Peter Obi, Kwankwaso said the coalition’s decision came after consultations and political discussions.
He explained that they considered Obi the most suitable candidate from southern Nigeria.
Kwankwaso added that the coalition still has enough time before the 2027 election to engage Nigerians and address rumours.
He said the alliance aims to provide better leadership and offer Nigerians another option for dealing with current national challenges.
