“Well, you know today is very special. Today is for the President and we all must come out to show and demonstrate that yes, we are for the President, we are for APC, and that’s why I am here,” Amosun said.
Former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has declared that the All Progressives Congress remains solidly behind President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
Amosun spoke on Saturday after participating in the APC presidential primary exercise at Ward 6 in Itoko, Abeokuta, where party supporters gathered in large numbers for the exercise.
Addressing journalists after voting, the former governor described the exercise as an opportunity for members of the ruling party to openly affirm their loyalty to both the President and the APC.
“Well, you know today is very special. Today is for the President and we all must come out to show and demonstrate that yes, we are for the President, we are for APC, and that’s why I am here,” Amosun said.
He stated that the party had already taken a collective position in support of Tinubu’s return for another term, adding that the exercise merely reinforced the decision already reached by party stakeholders nationwide.
“You know we have done the one for the governor, so all of us are in sync, we have all taken that position. So, it is just to reaffirm what we have done and that is what happened. Today, all of us in Nigeria, not just this place, every ward in Nigeria is doing this and we have to come here to participate and do our bit too,” he added.
Amosun praised party members for their peaceful conduct and impressive turnout, saying their enthusiasm reflected growing backing for the President across the country.
“I am happy with our people. You can see they are very excited and eager to be part of what is going on. I am satisfied with the process and you could see how the people came out in their numbers. See the crowd on ground; they have come to show support for our President,” he stated.
The former governor also said the orderly manner in which the exercise was conducted showed that APC members were united in supporting Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
“We are orderly and that is what it should be. All of us are speaking with one voice, no dissension. Everybody has agreed that yes, we want our President to return,” Amosun concluded.
Also speaking after the exercise, the lawmaker representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Afolabi Afuape, commended residents of Ward 6 for turning out peacefully to participate in the process.
“Let me thank the people of Ward 6 for coming out to vote for the hope of the country and that’s Tinubu.
“As we can all see, this shows acceptance, we are on that page. I must also thank former governor Ibikunle Amosun for participating in this process for the first time and that is also a good omen that Mr President is accepted by all and sundry,” Afuape said.
He added that the turnout demonstrated confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and underscored growing support for the President ahead of the next election cycle.
