‘Help me recover my husband’s body’- Widow of slain Oyo teacher cries out

Quick Read

“I am begging the government to please recover the body of my husband. I want him to have a burial site for future reference,” she said in Yoruba.

The widow of a teacher reportedly beheaded during a school attack in Oyo State has called on the government and security agencies to recover her husband’s remains.

Mrs. Mary Oyedokun made the plea following the death of her husband, Mr. Michael Oyedokun, a teacher at Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, who was abducted along with other teachers and students during coordinated attacks in Oriire Local Government Area.

The attacks targeted Community High School, L.A. Primary School, Esiele, and Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, with 46 to 48 people reportedly kidnapped, including teachers and pupils.

A video showing the gruesome killing of Mr. Oyedokun circulated online, sparking outrage across Nigeria.

Celebrities, civil society groups, and ordinary citizens condemned the act and demanded improved security measures and accountability from authorities.

In a separate video obtained on Friday, Mrs. Oyedokun, visibly distraught, appealed directly to the Federal Government, saying she wanted her husband to have a proper burial site for her family and future generations to visit.

“I am begging the government to please recover the body of my husband. I want him to have a burial site for future reference,” she said in Yoruba.

Authorities continue to carry out rescue operations for the remaining abducted victims. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde assured residents that both kinetic and non-kinetic measures are being deployed to secure their release.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu condemned the killing, describing it as barbaric, and assured Nigerians that security agencies are intensifying efforts to rescue the captives and bring the perpetrators to justice.
