The clarification followed widespread panic among residents, many of whom reportedly shut their shops and businesses early over fears of an 8 p.m. curfew.

The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that a curfew has been imposed in Ibadan and other parts of the state.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Ibadan, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said residents should ignore the rumours, stressing that movement within and outside the state capital remains unrestricted.

“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to categorically state that there is currently no curfew or restriction placed on the movement of persons or vehicles within or outside Ibadan, contrary to reports circulating in some quarters,” the statement said.

The clarification followed widespread panic among residents, many of whom reportedly shut their shops and businesses early over fears of an 8 p.m. curfew.

The tension comes days after gunmen abducted teachers and pupils during attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area.

However, the police assured residents that the security situation in the state remains under control.

“The command unequivocally assures residents and the general public that there are no security concerns warranting panic or apprehension,” Ayanlade stated.

He added that security personnel had been strategically deployed across the state to maintain law and order.

The command also warned against spreading false or unverified information capable of causing fear among residents.

“Anyone found engaging in such acts will be investigated and made to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement added.

Police urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and continue their lawful activities without fear.
