The Oyo State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has condemned the recent kidnapping of pupils, students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

In a statement signed by its President, Okechukwu Nwabunike, and Executive Secretary, Promise Aja, the group described the incident as a painful attack on education, human lives and peaceful living in the affected communities.

The association expressed sympathy to the families of the victims, school authorities and residents of Oyo State, especially those in Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities.

Ohanaeze said it was deeply saddened by the abduction and described the attack as cruel and unacceptable. The group added that it stands with the victims and their families during the difficult period.

The organisation also condemned the reported killing of mathematics teacher, Michael Oyedokun, whose death was confirmed by Governor Seyi Makinde following the circulation of a video connected to the incident.

According to Ohanaeze, the killing shows the level of violence involved and poses a serious threat to education, peace and public safety. The group also sympathised with the family of the teacher and relatives of security personnel, including soldiers, Amotekun operatives and local vigilantes who reportedly died during rescue operations.

Ohanaeze praised Governor Makinde’s efforts in maintaining security and protecting lives across the state.

The group called for stronger community security systems and better protection in schools to prevent future attacks. It also encouraged residents to support security agencies by sharing useful information that could help rescue operations.

In addition, Ohanaeze advised the public not to spread sensitive information that could affect ongoing rescue efforts.

The organisation urged the police, military and other security agencies to intensify actions to secure the release of those still being held and ensure that those responsible face justice.

It added that insecurity can only be addressed through cooperation and unity and expressed hope for the safe return of all abducted persons.
