“Am I looking forward to marriage? Yes. I believe marriage is a major achievement. There’s nothing more beautiful than building a family and raising children together,” he said, while acknowledging the increasing number of failed marriages has made many singles more cautious.
Lagos showman and Proxy nightclub owner, Mike Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, has opened up on his views about marriage, family, and the challenges he faced following months of closure of his club after a National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) raid.
Speaking to journalists at his club, Pretty Mike said he still hopes to marry in the future, describing it as a key life milestone.
“Am I looking forward to marriage? Yes. I believe marriage is a major achievement. There’s nothing more beautiful than building a family and raising children together,” he said, while acknowledging the increasing number of failed marriages has made many singles more cautious.
On choosing a life partner, he stressed that character and attitude matter more than physical appearance.
“For me, it’s about behaviour, attitude, and personality. Physical appearance is not enough to sustain a marriage,” he added.
Pretty Mike also addressed his controversial public image, admitting that while controversy has become part of his brand, it is not something he deliberately seeks.
“My brand is already a controversial brand. It doesn’t necessarily mean I like controversy, but in this business, it is part of it,” he said.
Despite his flamboyant persona, the socialite described himself as a private person who prefers a quieter lifestyle.
“I actually hate parties and loud music. I like staying indoors by myself, but because nightlife is my business and source of income, I have to push myself out there,” he explained.
Pretty Mike further revealed he spent over N100 million renovating Proxy Lagos after the NDLEA shutdown, which lasted about nine months. He said the project was necessary to reposition the club and enhance the experience for patrons.
“The club was closed for nine months, which was financially and emotionally challenging for me and my team. I felt there was a need to rebuild and create something even better for people who support my business,” he said.
He also noted that despite the closure, multiple income streams and support from family and business associates helped him remain afloat.
“The brand, Pretty Mike, is always making money. That is what has kept me afloat regardless,” he stated.
Beyond nightlife, Pretty Mike is actively involved in construction and real estate, building and selling properties.
“I have a construction firm. I’m also slightly into real estate, then of course, there’s family support. People feel safe investing with me because they know I’m not the type to disappear,” he added.
He stressed that the credibility he has built over the years has encouraged investors to trust and back his ventures.
