The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has posted a sharp rise in revenue, with collections increasing by 448 per cent over a two-month period.

Officials disclosed that revenue jumped significantly compared to figures recorded in the corresponding period last year. The surge is being attributed to improved enforcement, tighter border monitoring, and enhanced compliance by importers operating along the Seme border corridor.

According to the Command, the rise reflects stronger anti-smuggling operations and more efficient documentation processes introduced in recent months. These measures have helped reduce revenue leakages that previously affected collections at the busy border post linking Nigeria and Benin Republic.

Customs authorities also noted that increased engagement with traders and freight operators contributed to better adherence to import guidelines. The Command maintained that it will sustain the enforcement drive while balancing trade facilitation to avoid disruption of legitimate cross-border commerce.

Officials described the performance as a sign of improved operational discipline and coordination among border units. They added that ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Customs Service are expected to further boost revenue generation in the coming months.
