Oyo: 3 dead, one rescued in security operatives’ gun battle with kidnappers

Police operatives working with hunters and other security agencies have killed three suspected kidnappers and rescue an abducted victim at Otu community in the Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo State.
The spokesperson for the Oyo Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka who revealed this in a statement on Tuesday said the operation was initiated following report of gunmen attack on hunters who had gone on a hunting expedition in Otu on 25 May.
He said the gunmen did not succeed in killing any of the the hunters.
However, Ayanlade said acting of their report, a response team comprising police operatives, local hunters, and other security agencies was immediately mobilized to the scene at Otu.
He said the hoodlums opened fire and engaged the security team in a gun duel when they were confronted inside the bush.
“However, through superior tactical response and coordinated effort, the criminals were successfully overpowered, leading to the neutralization of three suspected kidnappers,” Ayanlade said.
He added that operation also resulted in the rescue of one Mr. Mosudi Gbolagade, aged about 50 years, who had earlier been kidnapped at Okaka community and held captive within the Otu area.
The police spokesperson said victim who sustained gunshot injuries during the incident has been evacuated for urgent medical attention.
He added that security operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle, one single-barrel gun, and one machete from the scene while one of the hunters who was injured during the operation is currently receiving medical care.
“Commending the bravery and synergy displayed during the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, lauded the gallantry of the local hunters and other security stakeholders whose timely intervention significantly contributed to the success recorded.
“The Command therefore reiterates its unwavering commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal elements across the state and urges residents to remain vigilant by providing credible and timely information to security agencies,” Ayanlade said.
