The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has publicly endorsed Kingsley Chinda’s governorship ambition in Rivers State, describing him as an experienced politician with the capacity to lead the state.

Wike made the remarks while speaking with journalists on Tuesday, where he expressed confidence in Chinda’s political background and leadership experience. According to him, Chinda’s record in public service makes him a strong contender ahead of the next governorship election.

The former Rivers State governor stated that a good candidate does not require excessive campaigning because people already recognize competence and experience when they see it.

Speaking on Chinda’s credentials, Wike said many people already know his political strength and understanding of governance.

According to Wike:

“Everybody knows that Kingsley Chinda is the material. He is experienced and understands government. He has worked with the executive arm and is currently serving in the legislature. I am sure he would have been approached by the APC because of his political value.”

Wike explained that Chinda’s experience across different areas of governance gives him an advantage in understanding how government policies are developed and implemented. He noted that such exposure could help in addressing governance and development challenges in Rivers State.

Kingsley Chinda recently emerged as the winner of the APC governorship primary election in Rivers State as political activities continue ahead of next year’s general election.

His emergence came after several notable political figures stepped away from the primary contest.

Among those who withdrew were the incumbent governor, Sim Fubara, and Tonye Cole, who previously flew the APC flag in the 2023 governorship election.

The development has attracted political attention in Rivers State, with observers viewing Chinda’s emergence as a significant moment in the state’s evolving political landscape.

Wike’s endorsement is expected to add momentum to Chinda’s campaign as preparations for the governorship election continue.

Political stakeholders are expected to watch closely to see how alliances and party strategies shape the contest in the coming months.

With campaigns gradually taking shape, Rivers State is likely to remain one of the states to watch ahead of the next election cycle.
