Chelle sends strong warning as Super Eagles eye AFCON, World Cup glory

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle says Nigeria is rebuilding the national team with a clear plan and serious goals after their 2–0 win over Zimbabwe.

He said the team is not playing for fun anymore, but to prove themselves and earn places in the squad.

“We focus on tactics, keeping the ball on the ground, and being aggressive,” Chelle said after the match. “The players responded well.”

Nigeria dominated the game, pressing strongly and defending well. The 2–0 win showed their improvement and discipline.

Chelle also said every match is important, whether it is a qualifier or not.

“This job is about qualifying for the AFCON. Even non-competitive games are chances for players to show what they can do,” he explained.

He added that players who perform well will stay in the team, while those who do not may be dropped.

The coach said AFCON qualification is the main focus now, while the World Cup comes later.

“Our goal is still to qualify for the World Cup, but right now we are focused on AFCON qualifiers,” he said.

Nigeria will also face Jamaica in the final of the Unity Cup on Saturday in London. The match is a rematch of last year’s final, which Nigeria won on penalties after a 2–2 draw.

Zimbabwe will play India in the third-place match.
