The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has confirmed that its presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly primaries will hold across the country on May 29, 2026, as earlier planned.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, and National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, the party said the Eid-el-Kabir holidays caused transport and travel challenges, especially limited flight availability.

The party explained that many aspirants and members of the screening committee who travelled to Abuja for screening exercises were unable to leave the Federal Capital Territory because of the disruptions.

According to the statement, May 28 will now be used for arrivals, documentation with electoral and security agencies, consultations, and other preparations ahead of the primaries.

The party also said its officials would meet with stakeholders, elders, and aspirants in different states during the day.

NDC stressed that no government agency, including the Police, INEC, or DSS, is expected to take part in any activities scheduled for May 28. It warned that any actions outside the approved guidelines would be seen as unauthorized.

The party listed the order of the May 29 primaries as follows:
Presidential affirmation
National Assembly primaries/affirmation
State Assembly primaries/affirmation
Governorship primaries/affirmation.

The statement added that all results would be sent to the party’s national headquarters, where the National Working Committee would officially announce the outcomes.

The party also warned that no state executive or committee has the authority to announce results on its own.

NDC urged members and aspirants to remain peaceful and orderly during the exercise, while maintaining its zero tolerance for violence, hooliganism, and disorderly conduct.
