The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the attack on a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) political event in the state, as investigations into the incident continue.

The arrests followed the disruption of a governorship candidate affirmation programme organised by a faction of the PDP, during which several vehicles were reportedly vandalised by suspected political thugs.

Police spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, said the command acted on intelligence gathered after the incident and succeeded in apprehending two suspects believed to have been involved in the attack. He added that efforts were ongoing to track down other individuals linked to the violence.

The incident occurred outside the venue of the political gathering, where assailants allegedly arrived on motorcycles and damaged vehicles belonging to party members before fleeing the scene. Police officers deployed to the event reportedly pursued the attackers, but they initiall escaped.

The attack drew condemnation from members of the PDP faction that organised the event. Party officials had earlier alleged that hoodlums targeted vehicles parked near the venue and later damaged campaign materials and billboards at the party secretariat.

Habib reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, warning that political violence would not be tolerated in the state.

He assured residents that investigations were continuing and pledged that anyone found culpable would be brought to justice.

The development comes amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with security agencies urging political actors and their supporters to conduct their affairs peacefully.
