Speaking through Alhaji Wada Masu, the aspirants said the irregularities that characterised Kano ADC primaries pose serious threat to internal democracy, fairness, justice, and the party’s credibility.

A group of aspirants of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State have alleged that the primaries recently conducted by the party lacked legitimacy and transparency.

They said this while expressing their dissatisfaction over alleged irregularities that marred the conduct of purported party primaries in the state at a press conference on Tuesday in Kano.

Speaking through Alhaji Wada Masu, the aspirants said the irregularities that characterised Kano ADC primaries pose serious threat to internal democracy, fairness, justice, and the party’s credibility.

The aspirants called on the party’s national leadership to intervene by thoroughly investigating the matter.

“We called this press conference to formally express our deep concern and dissatisfaction regarding the purported primary elections said to have been conducted in Kano state for the ADC on May 21.

“It is important to state clearly that on the same day the primary elections were said to have taken place, all aspirants were participating in the screening exercise.

“This development alone raises serious questions about the legitimacy and transparency of the exercise claimed to have been conducted,” Masu said.

He recalled that the Elections Committee officially invited all aspirants on May 22, for a consensus meeting, with a clear communication that if consensus failed, primary elections would subsequently be conducted.

“This directly contradicts the claim that a valid primary election had already taken place on May 21.

“These irregularities constitute a serious threat to internal democracy, fairness, justice, and the credibility of our great party,” he said.

According to him, the aspirants have no option than using the press to call on the national leadership of the party, and all those concerned, to immediately intervene by investigating the matter thoroughly.

“This is with a view to providing a fair, free, lawful, and lasting solution to prevent any crisis and further disenfranchisement of lawful party members and their rights to elect and be elected in all elections.

“Our struggle is not against any individual, but for justice, transparency, and the protection of democratic principles within our party.
“We remain law-abiding, committed party members, and we believe that fairness and due process must prevail,” he added. (NAN)
