Most artists are broke, just famous – Akon makes shocking claims

Senegalese-American singer Akon has once again stirred up reactions by making shocking claims about the financial standing of artists.

The singer, while speaking with Hip Hop Eye, claimed that music executives are mostly the recipients of the revenue generated from making music.

Akon further claimed that most artists just get the recognition and fame but not the wealth attached to the music industry.

”In the music industry, the artist is the last to get paid. He is the broke one but he is the most famous. If you want to be broke and famous, be the artist. But if you want to make real money go to other sectors of music business, like the producer, songwriter, manager, agent and attorney. There are so many areas in the entertainment field that you can really maximise,” he said.
