The University of Ibadan (UI) has promoted 36 of its dedicated academic and library staff members to higher ranks including Professor, Reader and Deputy University Librarian.

The news many in the academic community consider exciting was first announced in a release dated May 29, 2026, before uploading it on the university’s official website on Tuesday.

According to the school authorities, the Appointments and Promotions Committee for Academic Staff sealed the approvals during their meeting held on May 20 and 21, 2026.

Out of the 36, twenty-three (23) academics moved up from Reader to the prestigious rank of Professor. Another 11 climbed from Senior Lecturer to Reader, showcasing continuous academic growth within the institution. Two Principal Librarians at the renowned Kenneth Dìkè Library were also elevated to Deputy University Librarian.

The management said the promotions take effect from various years between 2021 and 2025, depending on each individual’s journey and case.

The official announcement was signed by the Registrar, G. O. Saliu, making it fully legitimate. Below is the promotions’ full list:
