Scare for Rivers United as team contingent Involved in road accident

Players and officials of Rivers United were involved in a road accident on Thursday while travelling to Awka, Anambra State, for their President Federation Cup Round of 16 match against Nasarawa United.

The accident happened along the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road near Port Harcourt shortly after the team left its camp.

In a statement, the club said some players and officials suffered minor injuries. However, no deaths or serious injuries were recorded.

Rivers United stated that all injured persons are receiving medical treatment and are in stable condition. The club’s medical team is monitoring those affected, while management is reviewing the situation and making necessary arrangements.

The club also thanked fans, partners, and members of the football community for their concern, prayers, and support.

Rivers United added that further information about the team’s travel plans and the Federation Cup fixture against Nasarawa United will be announced later.
