Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy and Colombian pop superstar Shakira will headline a star-studded lineup of performers at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City on Thursday, June 11.

The duo will perform “Dai Dai,” the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in support of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, setting the tone for what FIFA has described as an “unforgettable tournament opener.”

Other international stars scheduled to perform at the ceremony include Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná and South African singer Tyla.

The opening ceremony, which will take place at Mexico City Stadium, is expected to begin 90 minutes before the tournament’s opening match between hosts Mexico and South Africa. It will be the first of three opening ceremonies planned across the tournament’s host nations — Mexico, Canada and the United States.

Beyond his performance at the opening ceremony, Burna Boy is also among four Nigerian artistes featured on the official 2026 FIFA World Cup album, underscoring Nigeria’s strong representation in the tournament’s musical offerings.

The African music stars on the album include Burna Boy, Davido, Rema and Ayra Starr.

Davido features on “No Place Like Home” alongside Major Lazer and Nelly Furtado, while Rema collaborates with Lisa and Anitta on “Goals.” Ayra Starr also appears on the album with “Show Me,” a track featuring American rapper Latto.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, the first edition to be hosted by three countries, will be held across the United States, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19. The tournament is expected to be the biggest in FIFA history, bringing together 48 teams from around the world.
