Gombe governorship: Opposition parties’ coalition declares support for APC’s Gwamna

A coalition of stakeholders from opposition parties in Gombe has defected to the All Progressives Congress, (APC) while declaring support for the actualisation of the governorship bid of Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the state.
This was revealed in a statement by Ibrahim Sani Shawai, media aide to Dr. Gwamna on Friday.
According to the statement, the stakeholders, from major opposition parties including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Labour Party (LP) announced their decision during visit to Dr. Gwamna in Gombe.
They based their decision on Gwamna’s leadership qualities and growing acceptance among the people of Gombe State.
Some of those who visited Gwamna include Professor Sulaiman Dankande Stakeholder PDP Gombe State, Hon.Nura Abba Assistant State PDP Organising Secretary, Hon Abdullah Amtai ADC State organising Secretary, Hon. Dedan Mela, Executive Chairman Billiri LGA, and Hon. Murtala Usman Dukku former PRO, PDP State Executive.
“Our decision to join the APC is informed by the need to support a leader who has the capacity, integrity, and clear direction for the future of Gombe State. We are fully committed to supporting Dr. Gwamna to victory in the 2027 elections,” the leaders of opposition parties said during the visit.
In his response, Dr Gwamna welcomed the stakeholders and commended their decision, describing it as a right step towards protecting the general interest of the state.
“This decision shows your commitment to the development of Gombe State. I assure you that together, we will work to deliver progress and good governance for our people,” he said.
Shortly after their defection, the APC chairman of the Gombe LGA, Alh. Idris Saleh formally received them into their party, and each of them was registered and issued a party membership card.
