Michael Olise delivered a masterclass performance on Monday night, scoring a hat-trick as France defeated Northern Ireland 3-1 in an international friendly.
The Bayern Munich winger was the standout performer for Didier Deschamps’ side, finding the net three times to help Les Bleus maintain their dominance against a spirited Northern Ireland team.
France controlled possession and created the bulk of the chances throughout the encounter, with Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue all playing key roles in a relentless attacking display.
After several early opportunities, France eventually broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute when Olise reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the penalty area and fired home to give the hosts a deserved lead before halftime.
The French side resumed the second half with renewed intensity and doubled their advantage just four minutes after the restart. Olise again proved decisive, finishing clinically from inside the box to make it 2-0.
Despite being under sustained pressure for much of the match, Northern Ireland refused to surrender and pulled a goal back in the 64th minute. Patrick Kelly capitalised on a well-worked move orchestrated by Shea Charles and rifled a low shot into the corner to briefly revive his side’s hopes.
However, France quickly reasserted control. With 15 minutes remaining, Olise completed his hat-trick in spectacular fashion, cutting inside from the edge of the box before unleashing a strike that beat goalkeeper Pierce Charles via the post.
The victory reflected France’s overall superiority, with the hosts registering 23 attempts on goal compared to Northern Ireland’s four and dominating possession for long periods.
Mbappe came close to adding his name to the scoresheet on several occasions but was denied by poor finishing, a goal ruled out for offside and some resolute defending from the visitors.
Northern Ireland goalkeeper Pierce Charles also produced a number of important saves to prevent the scoreline from becoming more emphatic.
