2027: Babachir Lawal signals support for Tinubu, fires fresh shot at Atiku
Quick Read
“I said it that if it must be a choice between Atiku and Tinubu, I believe Bola Tinubu’s presidency, as challenging as it is now, would still be the safer and more capable option for the country,” Lawal said.
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal has caused a stir in political circles by signalling support for President Bola Tinubu while taking a fresh swipe at Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.
Speaking Monday on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’, Lawal said Tinubu’s leadership offers stability and experience, arguing that Nigeria would fare better under him than under an Atiku administration.
“I said it that if it must be a choice between Atiku and Tinubu, I believe Bola Tinubu’s presidency, as challenging as it is now, would still be the safer and more capable option for the country,” Lawal said.
He added a controversial analogy to illustrate his point: “When you are between the devil and the devil and you must go somewhere, you look for the lesser devil, because even in the satanic world, devils have categories.”
Lawal has previously criticized Atiku and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alleging that the party’s primaries that produced Atiku were massively rigged, prompting his exit from the party.
