Suspected kidnappers have abducted the traditional ruler of Ode Oriya community in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Chief Adeniyi Adelana.
The 60-year-old monarch was reportedly kidnapped from his home on Saturday night at about 8:30 p.m. when six armed gunmen stormed the community.
Sources said the attackers shot the monarch’s wife before taking him away into a nearby forest. The injured woman is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said security operatives were immediately deployed to the area.
According to him, police tactical teams and other security personnel have launched a search-and-rescue operation, combing nearby forests, bush paths, and possible escape routes to locate the abductors and rescue the monarch safely.
Jimoh assured residents that the police are committed to securing the monarch’s release and bringing those responsible to justice.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down the kidnappers and ensure the victim is returned safely to his family.
