The Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi has declared that the people of the South-East will correct the mistake they made in 2023 by voting for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Obi,a former Anambra governor who was the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election won in Ebonyi and the other four states in the South-East.
However, the Labour Party presidential candidate came third in the presidential election won by Tinubu of All Progressives Congress, APC.
Speaking on Saturday while conducting journalists and members of the presidential team who were on tour of Federal Government projects in South East courtesy of Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Umahi vowed that the situation will be different in the 2027 election.
He said President Tinubu has done enough in terms of projects to gain the trust of the people of South East over Obi who will contest the presidential election as the candidate of National Democratic Congress, NDC.
Umahi who spoke at a section of the Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue Trans-Saharan Superhighway where a flyover is being constructed revealed that the people of Ebonyi will adopt President Bola and Governor Francis Nwifuru on Monday to show their commitment to their re-election in 2027.
“And when we talk of the gains of the people of the South East under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, some people that do not understand what we are talking about will continue to demarket us.
“But the South-East people are very appreciative of what the President is doing and by Monday, under the leadership of the governor of Ebonyi State, we are going to demonstrate it when we adopt the President and our governor.
“And let it be known that Ebonyi state is not obedient because we want to catch up with the rest of the country. We’ll never be obedient. What happened before was an accident of history, it will not repeat itself,” Umahi said.
The Minister also listed the projects being undertaken by President Tinubu in Ebonyi state
According to him, 123.5 kilometers of trans-sahara route which is the third legacy project the President Tinubu adjoining the Lagos-Calabar Highway through Ndi-gbe Bridge to Benue border is in Ebonyi State.
“The Dangote Project – through tax credit that is running from a section of this Trans- Sahara going to Okigwe, Abia to Port Harcourt-Enugu Federal Highway is ongoing. It’s N196 billion.
The Ndi-gbe bridge, a very wonderful project is ongoing – the project is N65 billion. Enugu-Abakaliki is N183 billion and it is 118 kilometers. In the past, Ebonyi never had any federal project. I was party chairman for five years. I was deputy governor for four years, I was governor for eight years. I never saw any federal project in Ebonyi State.
“So, we have every reason to be disobedient in an obedience to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, him and him alone,” Umahi said.
Meanwhile, while receiving the media delegation in Abakaliki, Governor Nwifuru thanked President Tinubu for his commitment to infrastructure development in the South East, especially in Ebonyi, and for his national renewal programme.
He also highlighted numerous completed and ongoing projects in the state, including rural roads, primary health centres, and water schemes.
“We have kept contractors busy in the state with projects spread across every local government area, from rural roads to primary health centres and water schemes. We do not even view the road projects as a big deal because we have road projects scattered all over the state.”
The National Media Tour is organised by the Governor Hope Uzodimma-led Renewed Hope Ambassadors, in collaboration with the Presidential Media Team.
The visit to the South East is the team’s second regional tour, following the team’s North West tour. The delegation is led by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, and Chief Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications.
Other team members include Mr. Tunde Rahman, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media; Tope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity; Mr. Otega Ogra, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital and New Media; Segun Dada, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media; Linda Akhigbe and Fred Nwabufo, Senior Special Assistants to the President on Strategic Communications; Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai and Barrister Chioma Nweze, Senior Special Assistants to the President on Community Engagement; and Dare Olude, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation.
