Serena Williams and Venus Williams are set to return to Wimbledon as they have been given a wildcard entry into the women’s doubles competition.
Serena Williams, 44, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion with seven Wimbledon titles, is making a comeback to competitive tennis. She recently returned to action at Queen’s Club after being away from the sport since the 2022 US Open. She is also currently playing doubles in Berlin with Karolina Muchova as part of her preparation.
Her sister, Venus Williams, 45, a five-time Wimbledon singles champion, has struggled in singles this year, losing all her matches.
However, she showed better form in doubles earlier in April when she teamed up with Katie Boulter to win at the Madrid Open.
The Williams sisters will team up again at Wimbledon, which begins on 29 June. Fans are excited because this could be another memorable moment in their long and successful tennis careers.
They were not given wildcards for the singles event, although one spot is still open and could still change that.
Other players who received wildcards include former British number one Dan Evans, who is expected to retire after the tournament, and three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka.
Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov also received a wildcard, while French player Maja Chwalinska was rewarded for her strong performance at the French Open.
