The We Are Not Thugs Foundation, also known as the Rector Pascal Foundation, has successfully concluded its Healthy Shitta Medical Outreach, providing free healthcare and welfare support to hundreds of residents in Shitta, Surulere, Lagos State.

The one-day outreach, held on Saturday, June 13, brought together healthcare professionals, volunteers and community leaders to offer free medical services aimed at improving the health and well-being of residents.

The programme, which commenced at 11 a.m., featured free medical consultations, health screenings, therapy and counselling sessions, medication support, deworming, sanitary pad distribution and health education on preventive healthcare, substance use disorder and early intervention.

Leading medical practitioners, including Dr. Olusina Ajidahun, popularly known as Bearded Dr. Sina, and Dr. Chinonso Egemba (Aproko Doctor), joined other doctors, nurses and volunteers to provide medical care and health education to beneficiaries.

Speaking on the importance of the initiative, the founder of the We Are Not Thugs Foundation, Rector Pascal, said good health remains fundamental to personal and community development.

“A sick community cannot produce anything. A weak person cannot provide for themselves or their family. But a healthy person can achieve a lot and has a chance to live in the purpose of their existence,” he said.

According to the organisers, the outreach was designed not only to meet immediate healthcare needs but also to promote preventive healthcare and encourage residents to adopt healthier lifestyles.

One of the volunteer nurses described the experience as rewarding.

“It’s amazing serving the community alongside incredible people. #HealthyShitta,” the volunteer said.

Residents who benefited from the programme commended the organisers for bringing quality healthcare services directly to the community and called for similar interventions to be sustained.

Photographs from the event showed volunteers wearing branded We Are Not Thugs Foundation attire while attending to residents, distributing medications and welfare materials, and engaging community members in health awareness sessions.

The foundation said the outreach builds on its previous interventions addressing substance use disorder and community rehabilitation in areas such as Akala in Mushin, reaffirming its commitment to improving public health and supporting vulnerable communities.

The organisation also expressed appreciation to the healthcare professionals, volunteers, partners and members of the Shitta community whose contributions ensured the success of the outreach.

The We Are Not Thugs Foundation has continued to champion community-based interventions focused on healthcare, rehabilitation, youth development and social inclusion across Lagos.
