To douse rising tension occasioned by a recent judgement delivered by the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo in the state’s local government dispute, the Osun Police Command has urged calm.

The command said in a press statement on Friday signed by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, that conduct and statement of individuals was being monitored.

It urged all parties involved to remain calm and law abiding in their actions.

The statement read in part: “The attention of Osun Police Command has been drawn to the rising tension with recent judgement delivered by the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo over the local government dispute.

“The Command is closely monitoring the conduct, statements, and actions of all parties involved. It is pertinent to note that, there is a legal laid down procedure for the execution of court judgements with due consideration to right of appeal.

“The rule of law remains the foundation of our democratic society; therefore, all parties are enjoined to strictly comply with the established legal procedures when seeking to enforce judgements.

“The police wish to strongly sound this note of warning that the command will not tolerate lawlessness and extrajudicial actions that will jeopardize the long existing peace of the state.

“We urge all political actors, their supporters, and the general public to remain calm, law-abiding, and maintain peace. All grievances and enforcement actions should be channeled through the appropriate legal and judicial mechanisms.

“The Command has been placed on heightened alert to ensure that law and order are maintained throughout the jurisdiction.”

Ojelabi added that police would not hesitate to take decisive action against “any individual or group that attempts to disrupt the peace or violate the law.

“All parties concerned have been duly advised. We assure the public of our unwavering commitment to ensuring a peaceful environment where the rule of law prevails.”

The Federal High Court had on June 16 sacked the council chairmen and councillors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the October 15, 2022 local government elections.
