#EkitiDecides: Fayose predicts Oyebanji’s victory after casting vote in Ekiti Poll
Quick Read
The former governor, who remains a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said prevailing political realities and the mood of the electorate indicate that Oyebanji is on course for a convincing re-election victory.
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has predicted victory for the incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji, in Saturday’s governorship election, saying the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate enjoys widespread support across the state.
Fayose made the remark shortly after casting his vote at Polling Unit 1 in Afao-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area, during the ongoing election.
The former governor, who remains a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said prevailing political realities and the mood of the electorate indicate that Oyebanji is on course for a convincing re-election victory.
“(Biodun) Oyebanji has already won the election,” Fayose declared while speaking with journalists after voting.
He said the body language of residents and the general atmosphere across the state pointed to strong public support for the incumbent governor.
“If you look at the state of things in the state and the body language of the people, I am predicting an overwhelming victory for him,” he stated.
Fayose’s comments are significant because they come despite the fact that his party, the PDP, is fielding Wole Oluyede as its candidate in the governorship contest.
The former governor has in recent months openly endorsed Oyebanji’s re-election bid, a move that has placed him at variance with the traditional position of his party.
His latest endorsement underscores the growing political relationship between the former PDP governor and the APC-led administration in the state.
Fayose governed Ekiti State between 2003 and 2006 and later served a second term from 2014 to 2018 under the PDP platform.
