Panic gripped Tsamiya town in Kebbi State on Saturday night after suspected terrorists invaded the community, destroyed property and abducted a resident.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the attack in a statement issued in the early hours of Sunday.

According to the command, the armed men stormed the town late on Saturday, fired sporadically and set several structures ablaze.

Among the structures destroyed were a makeshift checkpoint belonging to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, a local brothel and the house of a resident identified as Sule Mai Goge.

The attackers also abducted one Alhaji Yusuf Bazamfare during the raid.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bashir Usman, said tactical teams had been deployed to the affected community.

“The Kebbi State Police Command has deployed tactical personnel to Tsamiya Town following an attack by suspected terrorists in the late hours of 20th June 2026,” Usman said.

He said the Commissioner of Police ordered the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to the area after receiving the report of the attack.

The police spokesman said a full-scale investigation had been launched into the incident.

He added that efforts were ongoing to rescue the abducted victim and track down those behind the attack.

“A comprehensive investigation into the incident has since commenced, and efforts to rescue the kidnapped victim and track the perpetrators are ongoing,” Usman said.

The command assured residents of Tsamiya and neighbouring communities that security operations would continue until normalcy is fully restored.

“The Command assures residents of Tsamiya and environs that security operations will continue until normalcy is fully restored,” the statement added.

Police also urged residents to remain calm but vigilant.

The command appealed to members of the public to support ongoing security operations by providing credible information that could help security agencies apprehend the attackers and rescue the abducted victim.

Authorities said further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
