England were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by a disciplined Ghana side in their World Cup Round 2 encounter on Tuesday night, despite dominating possession and creating the better chances throughout the contest.

Thomas Tuchel’s men controlled large portions of the game, enjoying overwhelming possession and pinning Ghana deep inside their own half for extended periods.

However, a combination of wasteful finishing and inspired goalkeeping from Ghana’s Benjamin Asare denied the Three Lions a breakthrough.

England started brightly, moving the ball confidently and dictating the tempo from the opening minutes. Midfielders Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice orchestrated proceedings, while Harry Kane, Anthony Gordon and Noni Madueke repeatedly tested Ghana’s defensive organization.

Despite England’s territorial dominance, Ghana remained compact and dangerous on the counterattack. Jordan Ayew, Inaki Williams and Antoine Semenyo worked tirelessly to relieve pressure, while Thomas Partey anchored the midfield with characteristic composure.

The best opportunities fell to England in the second half. Bukayo Saka, introduced from the bench, nearly broke the deadlock with a powerful strike that forced a stunning save from Asare. Moments later, Nico O’Reilly came agonizingly close when his header crashed against the crossbar, with Kane blazing the rebound over the bar.

England continued to push forward in search of a winner. Kane tested Asare with a low effort, Gordon saw a shot saved, while Marc Guehi’s late header was cleared away as Ghana’s defence stood firm under relentless pressure.

The statistics reflected England’s superiority, with the Europeans enjoying more than 80 percent possession at one stage and earning a series of corners. Yet Ghana’s disciplined defensive display ensured they emerged with a valuable point.
