The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has declared candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winners of Tuesday’s councillorship by-election in the state.

The by-election was conducted to fill vacant councillorship seats in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA and Somolu Local Government Area.

The commission said the election became necessary to ensure continued democratic representation and effective grassroots governance following the demise of councillors representing the affected wards.

It declared the candidates in the result sheet made available to newsmen, after results collation in each of the affected wards.

The commission declared Mrs Kafayat Rufai of the APC winner of the by-election in Orimedu I Ward C of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area.

The electoral body said that Rufai polled 8,386 votes to defeat her rival,Mr Samsideen Sanusi of the National Democratic Party (NDP), who secured 27 votes.

The umpire said that no vote was recorded for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the ward.

Also, the commission declared Mrs Samiat Shotayo of the APC winner of the by-election in Kayode/Fadeyi Ward H of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mushin.

According to it, Shotayo scored 3,820 votes to defeat Mr Ifeanyi Onwenu of the ADC, who polled 260 votes, and Mrs Omobolanle Shotayo of the NDP, who secured 28 votes.

Similarly, the LASIEC declared Mrs Kehinde Jolaosho of the APC winner of the by-election in Bajulaye/Fola Agoro Ward F of Somolu Local Government Area.

The commission said that Jolaosho polled 2,546 votes to defeat Mr Ifeanyi Anyamebechi of the ADC, who secured 157 votes, and Mr Joseph Abalokun of the NDP, who scored 23 votes.
