Prominent constitutional lawyer and human rights advocate, Professor Mike Ozekhome, has been suspended from using the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

The suspension was announced by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) during its 173rd General Meeting.

In a statement signed by the LPPC Secretary, Mr. Kabiru Eniola Akanbi, the committee said the decision was made under Paragraph 26(6) of the Guidelines for the Conferment of the SAN Rank.

Akanbi, who is also the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, explained that the suspension will remain in place until disciplinary proceedings against Ozekhome are concluded by the LPPC’s Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee.

According to the committee, the action was taken to protect the integrity, dignity, and reputation of the SAN title.

As a result, Ozekhome is not allowed to present himself as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria while the disciplinary case is ongoing.

The LPPC stated that it remains committed to maintaining high standards of ethics, integrity, and discipline within the legal profession, and ensuring that the SAN rank continues to enjoy public trust and respect.
