FAAC Disburses N156.84bn to Lagos Local Governments
Quick Read
Experts attribute the increase in allocations to higher revenue from crude oil sales, improved Value Added Tax (VAT) collections, and growth in other federally generated revenues.
The 20 local government areas (LGAs) in Lagos State received a total of N156.84 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) between January and March 2026.
Data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation showed that Alimosho Local Government received the highest allocation of N10.08 billion during the period. Ajeromi-Ifelodun followed with N8.45 billion, while Kosofe received N8.37 billion.
Other major beneficiaries included Mushin with N8.30 billion, Oshodi-Isolo with N8.27 billion, Ojo with N8.21 billion, and Ikorodu with N8.12 billion. Surulere and Agege received N7.97 billion and N7.86 billion respectively.
Several other councils, including Ifako-Ijaiye, Somolu, Ikeja, Eti-Osa, Amuwo-Odofin, and Lagos Mainland, received allocations ranging from N7.46 billion to N7.78 billion.
Among the councils that received the lowest allocations were Badagry with N7.33 billion, Apapa with N7.20 billion, Epe with N7.19 billion, Lagos Island with N7.17 billion, and Ibeju-Lekki with N6.95 billion, the lowest in the state.
The allocations were part of the funds shared among Nigeria’s 774 local government areas through FAAC. Nationwide, local governments received about N1.48 trillion in the first quarter of 2026.
Experts attribute the increase in allocations to higher revenue from crude oil sales, improved Value Added Tax (VAT) collections, and growth in other federally generated revenues.
Lagos remains one of the biggest beneficiaries of federal allocations because of its large population, strong commercial activities, and significant contribution to the Nigerian economy. The state also generates the highest internally generated revenue among all states in the country.
The funds are expected to support grassroots development projects, including road repairs, primary healthcare services, waste management, drainage construction, market development, and basic education facilities.
