Police in Ogun State have arrested three people linked to the murder of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.
The victims were found dead at Oyesiku’s home in Owode-Egba on June 21.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abeokuta on Thursday, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, said the arrests were made after intelligence gathering, forensic investigations, and technical tracking by detectives.
According to the police commissioner, officers at the Owode-Egba Police Station received a report of suspicious activities at the residence around 4 p.m. on June 21. The front door of the house had been damaged, while the security post inside the compound was locked.
When officers entered the property, they discovered Adetayo’s body inside the security house. Oyesiku was found dead in the living room of the main building.
Ojajuni said investigators carefully examined the crime scene and discovered that Oyesiku’s Lexus RX 330 vehicle was missing, suggesting that robbery may have been part of the crime.
The vehicle was later recovered on June 22 through intelligence-led operations and tracking.
Police also recovered a handwritten note believed to have been left by the attackers. The note was examined by forensic experts and provided useful leads in the investigation.
The main suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.
Further investigations led to the arrest of two other suspects, identified as Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.
According to Ojajuni, Philip confessed to participating in the killings and admitted recruiting the other two suspects.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that he planned the attack because he was unhappy with Oyesiku during the period he worked as her security guard.
Police said the suspects attacked the security guard first and used him to gain access to the house. They then allegedly attacked and killed Oyesiku before killing the guard.
After the attack, the suspects reportedly fled with Oyesiku’s vehicle.
Investigators later recovered several items believed to be connected to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank, and a black pen.
The police commissioner said investigations are ongoing and that all suspects will be given fair treatment under the law while evidence is being compiled for prosecution.
He assured residents that the Ogun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring justice for the victims and bringing everyone involved in the killings to justice.
