Boost for entrepreneurs as FG approves free CAC registration

Quick Read

addition to free registration, the government will provide business support and technical training to help entrepreneurs grow and sustain their businesses.

President Bola Tinubu has approved free business registration for 250,000 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across Nigeria.

The announcement was made on Saturday during the 8th National MSME Awards 2026 at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

According to the Presidency, the initiative is designed to help small business owners by removing the cost of registering their businesses. The goal is to bring more businesses into the formal economy and make it easier for them to access banking and government services.

Under the programme, beneficiaries will be able to register their business names with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) without paying the usual registration fees.

In addition to free registration, the government will provide business support and technical training to help entrepreneurs grow and sustain their businesses.

Interested business owners are expected to register through the official portal of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) using the hashtag #SMEDANGov to complete the required documentation and secure a place in the programme.

The initiative is being implemented through a partnership between the CAC and SMEDAN.

Officials involved in the programme said the fee waiver is a major government intervention aimed at reducing the high failure rate of small businesses across the country.
