Renowned event compere, award winning broadcaster and communications consultant Gloria Babarinde, popularly known as Gloria Babs, has highlighted the importance of effective communication in leadership, saying her work is focused on helping professionals and executives develop world-class communication skills.
Gloria, who has spent more than a decade in broadcasting and event hosting, made the remarks while reflecting on her career journey and the impact of her communications training initiatives.
She began her media career in 2014 as a show and news assistant at Radio Continental, now known as Max FM, where she contributed to the station’s flagship breakfast programme, The Continental Breakfast Show.
During her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year, she co-hosted the Spell and Sound Game Show on Premier FM and also presented Campus Groove, a youth-focused empowerment programme.
Between 2020 and 2022, she hosted Gloria’s Grid on Africa Tech Radio, further establishing herself as a respected media personality.
Beyond broadcasting, Gloria has built a reputation as a professional event host, earning recognition for moderating and anchoring events organised by major institutions, including Access Bank, Union Bank, Rand Merchant Bank, Schneider Electric, and the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
Speaking about her experience, she said interviewing prominent personalities across different sectors has contributed significantly to her professional growth.
“I have had the privilege of interviewing the Honourable Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture in Lagos State, Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, Stephanie Busari of CNN, Atedo Peterside, Dr (Mrs) Ajoritsedere Awosika, Fela Durotoye, Tara Fela-Durotoye, Chief Dr Obi Cubana and many others. These experiences have shaped me deeply,” she said.
Her contributions to media and communications have earned her several accolades.
In 2021, she received the 25 Under 25 Awards Nigeria in the Media and Communications category. She was also recognised among the 100 Most Inspiring Women in Africa by Glocal Unity in 2024 and was nominated for the ECOWAS Innovative Excellence Awards in 2026.
Through her company, Lait Media, Gloria provides communications training and consultancy services for corporate executives, business leaders and organisations.
According to her, the initiative is aimed at helping professionals communicate effectively in high-pressure environments.
“My work focuses on helping corporate leaders and professionals develop world-class communication skills, enabling them to speak with clarity, confidence and influence in high-stakes environments,” she said.
She is also involved in youth development through Raising Articulate Inspiring Speakers for Excellence (R.A.I.S.E) and the Gloria Babarinde Public Speaking Prize, programmes designed to equip young people with public speaking and leadership skills.
“Through R.A.I.S.E, I am creating opportunities for individuals, particularly young people, to build strong communication skills, gain confidence and use their voices as tools for influence and impact,” she added.
As she continues to expand her work in broadcasting, event hosting and leadership development, Gloria said she remains committed to promoting excellence in communication and empowering individuals to become more effective storytellers, speakers and leaders.
Industry observers say her growing influence reflects the increasing demand for communication professionals capable of bridging the gap between leadership, public engagement and personal development.
