President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former Lagos State Governor and former Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as an outstanding administrator whose contributions to governance and national development have left an enduring legacy.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised Fashola’s exemplary public service, intellectual depth and unwavering commitment to progressive governance, saying his leadership continues to stand as a model for effective administration.
The President described the former governor as an accomplished legal practitioner and patriotic Nigerian whose dedication to nation-building has significantly shaped the development of Lagos State and the country.
Reflecting on their long-standing political relationship, Tinubu recalled Fashola’s service as his Chief of Staff between 2003 and 2006 before succeeding him as Governor of Lagos State from 2007 to 2015.
According to the President, Fashola consolidated the gains of progressive governance in Lagos through landmark reforms spanning infrastructure, transportation, security, education, healthcare, environmental management and public sector administration.
Tinubu noted that the transformation of Lagos into a model of innovation and sustainable urban development remains one of Fashola’s enduring legacies.
“Fashola’s commitment to excellence, which helped to transform Lagos into a model of innovation and sustainable urban development, will continue to signpost him as an outstanding governor and leader,” the President said.
Tinubu also commended Fashola’s service in the Federal Executive Council between 2015 and 2023, where he headed critical ministries, including Works, Power and Housing.
He said the former minister discharged his responsibilities with diligence and dedication while contributing to the implementation of key national infrastructure projects.
As Fashola marked another birthday, the President prayed for continued good health, wisdom and strength for him.
“I wish him well. I pray that Almighty Allah will grant him many more years in good health, wisdom, strength, and fulfilment as he continues to contribute to the growth, unity, and prosperity of our nation,” Tinubu said.
