LAWMA expands waste removal drive across major Lagos communities

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has intensified the removal of accumulated waste across Lagos to improve environmental sanitation and maintain cleaner public spaces.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this was contained in an update on LAWMA’s X handle on Saturday.

It said the cleanup exercise covered major roads, bus stops, medians, markets, bridges, and other public locations across several local government areas and major corridors in the state.

“In Marina, LAWMA teams evacuated waste at UBA Roundabout, Inner Marina, Freedom Park, and Kakawa Junction by Broad Street.

“In Ikeja, the operation covered Idowu Lane, the FAAN Shopping Complex, and Oba Akran Road Bridge Wall.”

It said the Oshodi axis recorded waste removal at Oshodi Oke, near the NAFDAC office.

“In Epe, crews cleared T-Junction, Wale Raji Bus Stop, Olofin Junction on Lagos Road, and the Petrocam Filling Station area.

“The Epe operation also extended to Ikorodu Garage, Oregede Junction, Hospital Road, and the median at the Oluiwa area along Epe-Lagos Road.

“At Coker, LAWMA removed accumulated waste at Coker Bus Stop inward Orile, specifically at 94 Market Street, Ajeromi-Ifelodun.

“In Mushin, cleanup teams worked at Atewolara on Agege Motor Road, opposite the 3G Hub Building and opposite Dr Express Pharmacy Building.

“The Mushin operation also included Daleko Bridge, where accumulated waste was evacuated.”

It added that “In Alimosho, the agency cleared Council Roundabout on Ijemu-Ikotun Road, the bus stop black spot on Ipaja Road, and Iyana Ipaja Road by Ige Street Junction.

“Along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway corridor, LAWMA evacuated waste at Ile Oba Bus Stop, Ijanikin, and opposite Otto Ijanikin Primary Health Care in Ojo.”

The agency noted that the Surulere operation covered Ogunlana Junction Traffic Light on Lawanson Road.

Other completed locations included Rainbow Junction along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway and Mangoro Canal along Agege Old Abeokuta Road.

It said that the exercise also covered Ilaje Median, Ajah; Spot 1, Ajah; Maroko Bus Stop; Arrival Park, Berger; and Ologunfe Median at Ibeju-Lekki.

It added: “LAWMA teams further cleared the Oniru inward median along the Lekki-Epe Expressway and First Gate opposite Young Shall Grow Motor Park in Amuwo.

“Additional cleanup was carried out at Tejuosho in Yaba, beside Apongbon Bridge, Isolo Road in Isolo, and Aje Street Junction in the Akowonjo area.

“The operation also reached Obafemi Awolowo Way Median, Agidingbi Primary School Bus Stop, Cele Underbridge, and Franklas Bus Stop in Ojo Alaba.

“Waste evacuation continued at Abule Oduwole Median on Egbeda-Idimu Road, Abule Ado Bus Stop along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Ojota Bus Stop, and Mile 2 Bus Stop.

“The exercise also covered GTBank Olorunshogo, Egbeda-Idimu Road by Aregbesola Market, and the Odomola area in Eredo.

“Other locations cleaned included Sunday Market, Nigerian Press, Police Fence, Canal, Marwa Traffic Lights, Makinde Junction, and Shoreline.”

Recall that Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu had ordered the immediate scale-up of the 24-hour evacuation of accumulated refuse across the state.

The ongoing exercise forms part of LAWMA’s sustained intervention to remove accumulated waste, improve environmental sanitation, and maintain cleaner public spaces across Lagos.(NAN
