The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ebonyi State has dismissed reports linking it to the endorsement of a governorship aspirant from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Ifeanyi Odii, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The party said it had neither entered into any alliance with the PDP nor authorised anyone to speak on its behalf regarding support for another party’s candidate.
State Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Enyinnaya Udensi Alum, alleged that those behind the claimed endorsement were individuals who had previously been expelled from the party over alleged financial misconduct and anti-party activities.
He stressed that the NDC would remain committed to its own political agenda and would field its own governorship candidate in the next election.
According to Alum, any suggestion that the party had adopted or intended to support a candidate from another political platform was false and should be ignored by members and the public.
“Information reaching me, Hon. Prince Alum Enyinnaya Udensi, the Ebonyi State Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), is that a few former members of the party, who were sacked over financial impropriety and anti-party activities, are purportedly going to endorse one of the factional governorship candidates of the PDP on behalf of the NDC,” he said.
He urged party faithful not to associate themselves with the planned event, warning that participation would amount to anti-party conduct.
“Ebonyians, NDC members and other teeming supporters of the NDC in the state should note that the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Ebonyi State has its governorship candidate and that the party has not, and will at no time, endorse any candidate other than the NDC governorship candidate.
“NDC members are hereby requested not to attend any such gathering as it amounts to anti-party activities, while the general public is asked to desist from dealing with the said individuals as they are no longer NDC members and do not represent the Nigeria Democratic Congress.”
The Ebonyi chapter of the party reiterated that its attention remains firmly on preparations for the 2027 governorship election, maintaining that it will campaign solely for its own candidate and has no plans to support any aspirant from another political party.
