The Ogun State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on violent crime, recovering a stolen vehicle and arresting a suspected armed robber following a swift response to a robbery incident in the Ajuwon area of the state.
The command said the operation forms part of its intelligence-led policing strategy aimed at strengthening public safety and sustaining pressure on criminal elements across Ogun State.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the incident occurred on July 2 when armed hoodlums invaded a residence at Baale Akinosi Area, Ajuwon, carting away mobile phones, jewellery, power banks, a laptop computer, a Toyota Camry and other valuables.
Babaseyi said operatives of the Ajuwon Division immediately mobilised after receiving a distress call, launching a coordinated operation that forced the fleeing suspects into a hot pursuit.
He said the suspects abandoned the stolen Toyota Camry as police closed in on them, while one of the suspects, identified as Israel Salako, was arrested during the operation.
“The suspect is currently assisting investigators, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang and recover other stolen property,” the statement said.
Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised their professionalism, vigilance and prompt response, describing the successful recovery as a reflection of the command’s commitment to proactive and intelligence-driven policing.
Ojajuni reiterated that the command would sustain visibility patrols, strategic stop-and-search operations, rapid response to distress calls and stronger collaboration with communities to prevent crime before it occurs.
The police commissioner also advised motorists to comply with vehicle registration regulations and urged residents to remain security conscious by boarding commercial vehicles only at designated motor parks and recognised loading points.
He warned against patronising unbranded vehicles or private cars operating illegally as commercial transport, urging travellers to share their travel details with trusted relatives or friends whenever possible.
Ojajuni appealed to members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, assuring residents that the command would maintain relentless pressure on criminal elements to ensure the safety of lives and property across Ogun State.
