The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, has appealed to residents of Ibadan to avoid any actions that could lead to ethnic violence in the city.

The traditional ruler made the appeal following a recent clash involving Yoruba and Hausa groups in the Ojoo area of Ibadan.

Reports indicated that the crisis started after the alleged killing of a commercial motorcyclist believed to be of Yoruba origin on Tuesday.

The situation reportedly escalated on Wednesday when some Hausa and Yoruba youths confronted one another. Another person was also said to have lost his life during the unrest, although the victim’s identity has not been confirmed.

Reacting to the incident, Oba Ladoja described the development as unfortunate and heartbreaking. He stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence among all residents of Ibadan, regardless of their ethnic background, religion, age, or gender.

In a statement issued through his media aide, Chief Adeola Oloko, the monarch said maintaining peace in Ibadan remains a top priority.

He urged residents to see one another as brothers and sisters and continue to live together in harmony.

According to him, Ibadan has become home to many Nigerians from different parts of the country, and everyone should work together to preserve the city’s long-standing tradition of peaceful living.

The Olubadan also called on community leaders, youths, and residents to remain calm and support efforts aimed at maintaining law and order in the ancient city.
