Brillar Therapy, in collaboration with JayMore and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has organized a large-scale community mental wellness outreach for NURTW leaders in Oshodi

Brillar Therapy, in collaboration with JayMore and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has organized a large-scale community mental wellness outreach for NURTW leaders in Oshodi, Lagos, reinforcing the importance of mental, emotional, and physical well-being among commercial transport workers.

The outreach attracted more than 300 participants and formed part of Brillar Therapy’s ongoing grassroots campaign to improve mental health awareness and encourage early intervention within underserved communities.

Although the official programme was scheduled to begin at noon, medical screenings commenced earlier to ensure participants received prompt attention. A team of healthcare professionals conducted comprehensive health assessments, including blood pressure checks, chest X-rays, medical consultations, and the prescription of medications where necessary. Participants also received practical health education on maintaining healthy lifestyles and preventing common health conditions.

As part of the programme, JayMore facilitated an interactive session on abuse awareness, encouraging participants to speak openly about any form of abuse or emotional burden they may be experiencing. The facilitators emphasized the importance of breaking the culture of silence, seeking help when necessary, and creating safe spaces where individuals can receive professional support, guidance, and protection.

Executive Director of Brillar Therapy, Mrs. Fehintola Daniels, energized participants through a dance therapy session that created a relaxed and engaging atmosphere before delivering an extensive talk on mental health.

Addressing the participants, Daniels stressed that men often shoulder enormous responsibilities as providers, fathers, and community leaders while spending long hours on the road, making it essential for them to prioritize their mental and emotional well-being.

She encouraged the participants to speak up whenever they feel overwhelmed, seek professional support when necessary, and avoid neglecting their mental health.

According to her, unresolved emotional challenges can contribute to depression, anxiety, impaired judgment, road accidents, and even suicide, underscoring the need for greater awareness and early intervention.

Mental health practitioner Mr. Segun Matthew also addressed the gathering, explaining how emotions such as joy, sadness, fear, and stress influence the body and overall health. He described how hormones released during different emotional states can significantly affect both mental and physical well-being.

He urged participants to prioritize their emotional wellness, support one another, and understand that seeking professional help is a sign of strength rather than weakness.

The outreach concluded with the distribution of wellness packages to every participant as a practical demonstration of care and support. Each package contained a face towel, toothpaste, a pack of gari, and a shaving stick.

With more than 300 NURTW men in attendance, the programme reaffirmed Brillar Therapy’s commitment to taking mental health awareness to the grassroots and building healthier communities by equipping men with the knowledge, encouragement, and resources needed to thrive physically, emotionally, and mentally.

The organization said it remains committed to expanding similar outreach programmes across communities, ensuring that conversations around mental wellness become more accessible, inclusive, and free from stigma.
